T
he Passion of the Christ is receiving a great deal of publicity on TV and radio. We have great opportunity to ask folks what they think about the movie and then to share with them the truth.

The Passion of the Christ is a love story. For a hate crime to be committed there has to be a victim. Jesus was not a victim. Jesus told his followers at least three times that soon He would be crucified. They tried desperately to prevent this horrific event. Who killed Jesus? He chose to be there and it was my sin that put Him there. In the movie, the hand holding the spike being nailed through Christ's wrist is actually Mel Gibson's. Gibson understands that with his own hand he, too, was responsible. God tells us that he loves the world so much that he gave His only Son. Jesus loves his father and us so much that He willingly obeyed.

God planned Jesus' death and God accomplished it. Why? "In the beginning" …Adam knew what God told him to do but Adam decided he would do his own thing. Adam disobeyed God and sin entered the world. Ever since that day ALL of us have sinned. God is love but God is also just. God's nature demands that he punish lawbreakers like me. Just as sin entered the world through one man, in love God determined that the payment to satisfy His justice would be accomplished by one man!   Jesus.  Jesus, who knew no sin, became sin for you and me. My sin put Jesus on that cross and He willingly and lovingly chose to remain on the cross until the full payment for all the sins of the world was satisfied, once and for all. The cross satisfied God. God was pleased with the cross. The cross was a historical event that lasted three hours yet it has remained the focus of all time. It brings each of us to a crossroads. Which way will we choose?

My hope is that many will choose to believe the message of "The Passion of the Christ" and receive God's gift of forgiveness and thereby enter into a love relationship with God himself.
